Book of Shadows - "So Many Leaves Feel Like Falling"
Artwork and Bardic Poetry Book by Joseph S. Plum
Welcome:
Greetings and welcome to American Bardic Poet.
“angels sleeping beyond the blue awaken as they tumble through!”
The poet’s sixth book of poetry is titled Book of Shadows and is the second of a four-book series featuring 4 of my Japanese sumi-e brush paintings of green birds on the covers.
One of my favorite poems from this book is “falling.” It was also one of my Grandma Rosella’s favorite poems, and I remember Dad saying this poem to her as she leaned toward him to catch the sound of his voice. They stood on her front walkway, surrounded by peonies, as I listened with my head sticking out from our yellow truck's open window.
Good journey,
(The poet’s daughter.)
falling
in no hurry
i do not wait
for an unthinking thought
to come for
by the time
i get to where i am at
there is nothing going on.
so many leaves
feel like falling
with every little breeze
that comes a calling
still, they have a job to do
so, out on a limb
they stay
until the tree they serve
and the wind
decide they’re through.

About the Poet
Joseph S. Plum is a poet in the bardic tradition. He lives off-grid in rural Iowa and composes his unique chant-like oral poetry for fascinated audiences worldwide. Joe has over 16 hours of oral poetry memorized in his head. He pulls from this collection of rhyming lines to compose poems according to the energy of the audience listening. Joe does all of this without writing the poems down on paper or holding any notes.
Joe’s daughter, Emily Lupita, typed up his poems over the years and launched Dreaming Deer Press to publish his work. He now has nine poetry books for sale on Amazon that can be purchased on his about page or by clicking here or searching “Joseph S. Plum” books.
